A Hazelton-area man is facing numerous charges, following a police incident that closed down Highway 16 at Ferry Island in Terrace for about 90 minutes Friday morning.

At around 9:15 Friday morning, RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver, and attempted to pull over a maroon Ford truck.

The truck ended up colliding with two police vehicles and a Wonder Bread truck, and a man fled the scene on foot, prompting the RCMP to close down Highway 16 between Wal-mart and the new Thornhill Roundabout while they began a ground pursuit.

Officers managed to arrest the suspect, with help from the Conservation Authority  and the Police Dog Services Unit.

The man is facing a number of charges,  including assaulting a police officer with a weapon, possession of stolen property, flight from police, obstruction, driving while prohibited and dangerous driving.

A youth was also arrested at the scene of the crash and is facing a charge of possession of stolen property.

No injuries were reported in the collision.
