Aluminum City Telethon Celebrates The Future

"Into the Future" is the theme of this year's Aluminum City Telethon -- and with construction soon to begin on the massive LNG Canada project, that slogan seems well timed.

The telethon celebrates its 39th year this Sunday at the Mount Elizabeth Theatre.

It serves as the annual fundraiser for the  Kitimat Community Foundation, which supports organizations including the Tamitik Status of Women, Kitimat's Special Olympics chapter, and "Kitimat Arts for Youth".

Telethon Chair Michelle Popp local individuals and businesses have always gotten behind the telethon -- and this year is no exception.

"The community really does come together for this event, when it comes to even sitting on the phone panel -- we have volunteers from all the organizations we support, we have the sports groups, and dance groups -- we have the Fil-Can Dancers and I think the Spirit of Kitlope Dance Group is going to be on stage -- it's just a fun way for the entire community to come together and support one another, showcase our talents and just have fun!" she said.

The Telethon takes place Sunday from 11am until 9pm  at the Mount Elizabeth Theatre.

It will also be broadcast on Citywest's Community Channel, on its website and on its Facebook page.
