Air Canada Moves Up Flight Suspensions

It looks like Air Canada has moved up its suspension of flights in and out of Smithers and Prince Rupert.

A news release from the Town of Smithers late Tuesday afternoon said the airline had just announced the suspension of commercial flights into Smithers for the rest of March.

The airline had already planned to suspend service for the month of April, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Air Canada's website now notes a suspension of flights into Smithers and Prince Rupert beginning on Thursday.  Service to Sandspit had already been suspended.

The Town of Smithers says essential airport services such as access for emergency medical evacuations, charter flights, runway maintenance, and the receipt of supplies will continue to be maintained.

Prince Rupert's airport authority issued similar assurances to the public last week.

Air Canada is continue to operate flights in and out of Terrace.
