Air Quality Advisory for Smithers

Kathy Brookes

Smithers residents are being told not to use their woodstoves, unless it's the only heat in their homes.

This, after the Environment Ministry and Northern Health issued an Air Quality Advisory for the town Wednesday morning.

High concentrations of fine particulate matter are being measured and people with chronic underlying medical conditions are being urged to postpone strenuous exercise.

The advisory notes breathing in fine particulates is particularly a concern for pregnant women, infants, the elderly and people who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

There's no indication of when the Air Quality Advisory might be lifted.
