Hayley Wickenheiser salutes NW Bantam Girls after heartbreaker loss

A heart-breaking loss for the  North West District Female Rep bantam team at a weekend tournament in Prince George -- but they got a shout-out from the reigning queen of Canadian women's hockey.

The girls lost in the final, with the winning goal scored with 2.6 seconds left in overtime... but they received this message via Cameo from Hall-of-famer Hayley Wickenheiser.

"Hi there Northwest District Bantam Girls, this is Hayley Wickenheiser in Calgary and here to give you guys a shout-out because I heard you just lost a really tough game in overtime with 2.6 seconds left to go, which is a heart-breaking way to lose a game in a tournament -- I have definitely been through several of those in my hockey career so I can say I can feel your pain -- but having said that, sometimes our most defeating losses help us get some of our best wins," she says in the video.

Her advice to the girls was to not dwell on it and to just get ready for the next practice or next game and to stay positive.

The Northwest District Peewee girls team also took part in the tournament, and both teams participated in Wickenheiser's "Wick-fest" Female World Hockey Festival in Calgary recently -- and she hoped they'd be able to come again next year.
