Category 2 Fire Ban Reinstated as of Friday

John Crawford

The Northwest Fire Centre is re-imposing a ban on Category Two open fires throughout its coverage area, effective at noon Friday -- as warm dry weather returns to the region.

Category Two fires are piles less than three metres wide by two metres high -- as well as fires burning stubble or grass covering less than 0.2 hectares.

The ban does not include campfires at this point for most of the region.

However, in the far northwest, campfires ARE banned throughout the Cassiar Fire Zone (as of noon Friday), where the Fire Hazard is "High" to "extreme".
