Independent Consultant To Review Admin Changes in School District 82

The Coast Mountains School Board says it has heard clearly the concerns raised by students, parents, community members and partner groups, regarding recent administrative changes -- and has launched an independent review of the issues.

Parents and students have held protest rallies and have launched a petition, in response to the April announcement that the school board was replacing Skeena Middle School principal Phillip Barron and vice principal Cory Killoran, as well as Suwilaawks Community School principal Pam Kawinsky at the end of the current school year.

The announcement said all three had agreed to resume teaching positions.

In a news release distributed today, school board chair Shar McCrory said Dianne Turner had been retained as an independent consultant and had begun a thorough review of the entire situation.

The release says Turner's job is to address the concerns that have been raised about collaboration within the school district and to identify processes for moving forward.

It also asked for everyone's patience during the process, which will continue into the fall.

The School Board holds its final meeting of the current school year Wednesday evening in Terrace, and the matter is on the agenda.
