A Terrace man's idea that would ban all consumer packaging that isn't recyclable or compostable will be presented early next year by MP Nathan Cullen in a Private Member's bill.

Fifty-one-year-old Ben Korving has been named the winner of Cullen's "Create Your Canada" contest -- and he'll be flown by Cullen to Ottawa sometime early in 2019 to watch his idea tabled in the House of Commons.

Korving says companies should be held responsible for the packaging they produce -- and Cullen said the proposal would help society deal with an urgent problem.

Cullen’s "Create Your Canada" contest, as originally conceived, was open only to high school students -- but this year, he opened it to everyone living in the Skeena-Bulkley Valley riding -- and he says over 100 ideas were submitted.
