Cullen Invites Fisheries Minister To Northwest

The new Federal Fisheries Minister has been invited to visit the northwest.

MP Nathan Cullen extended the invite to North Vancouver MP Jonathan Wilkinson, who was appointed the Fisheries Minister in Justin Trudeau's recent cabinet shuffle.

Cullen says having Wilkinson visit our region is crucial to begin improving the current fishing situation.

"Getting a handle on the west coast particularly in the north and central coasts where we are under so much pressure right now, I would put that at the top of his agenda. We've had too many fisheries ministers that are obsessed with what's going on in the east coast or in Ottawa alone and we've been neglected, and it shows in the way we are handling fisheries."

Cullen said he hopes Wilkinson will get to hear first hand how difficult this year's fishing season has been.

The New- Democrat also expressed concern that the new Minster has been a vocal supporter of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion.
