The northwest's Member of Parliament says he's becoming increasingly frustrated with federal Fisheries Minister Jonathan Wilkinson, in the face of another difficult fishing season in our region.

New Democrat Nathan Cullen says the last two years have seen fishing closures throughout the Skeena and Nass watersheds, but Wilkinson doesn't appear to see the problem as a priority.

"We have a new fish minister in place who doesn't seem to be able to return phone calls so far and has not yet agreed to come up to the northwest and find out about what happened here;  we've had a crisis in our fishing sector in the northwest and we need leadership from the top of the DFO, which is the minister -- and all he's been out on is yelling at people that oil tankers are not bad for whales;  I just want him to do his job and part of that job is coming up to Skeena, talking to people on the ground so he can hear the real deal, not from his officials here in Ottawa that keep him in the dark and feed him a bunch of garbage," Cullen said.

Cullen says Wilkinson has an environmental background, so he doesn't understand the minister's apparent reluctance to address the crisis.
