A sessional lecturer in the University of BC's Department of Biology has been identified as the man whose body was found last Friday at a roadside pullout along Highway 37 south of Dease Lake last Friday.

Leonard Dyck of Vancouver was described as a loving husband and father by his family.

RCMP have formally charged 19-year-old Kam McLeod and 18-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky of Port Alberni with second degree murder -- but they remain on the run and are suspected of being near Gillam, Manitoba.

They're also prime suspects in the murders of  American Chynna Deese and her Australian boyfriend Lucas Fowler, whose bodies were found along the Alaska Highway on July 15th.

Gillam Deputy Mayor John McDonald says that if  they are hiding in the woods, they picked the wrong time of year because of voracious sandflies -- and they'll also find thick bush and swamps difficult to handle.

Police say they have set up a checkstop on the town's only road.

Manitoba RCMP confirmed that a burned out vehicle found near the community was the same one being driven by the suspects.

Corporal Julie Corchaine says this is a complex, ongoing operation and extra police officers have been deployed to the area.

"We're also reminding everyone that these suspects should not be approached, and if you do see them, call 911 or your local police immediately," she said.
