A man from the U.S. has been killed in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert.

RCMP say the crash happened at around 12:40 Tuesday afternoon, near the 90-kilometre marker on the highway, west of Terrace.

Police say members of the Terrace Fire Department were able to extricate the 75-year-old man from the vehicle, but he died of his injuries in an ambulance which was rushing him to hospital

Reports say the man's vehicle was heading east, when it attempted to pass another vehicle but ended up driving into the ditch and then colliding with the rock face near Exchamsiks (ex-CHAM'-six) River Bridge.

The highway was closed for a while, as police investigated.

Conditions were reported to be foggy and wet at the time.
