One man dead, another in custody after stabbing in Smithers

One man is dead and another man is in custody, after a weekend stabbing near Smithers.
 
RCMP say they were called to a rural residence at around 12:30 Saturday morning, where BC Ambulance personnel were treating an unconscious man suffering serious stab wounds.
 
The 22-year-old man received emergency treatment by paramedics and was then rushed to Bulkley Valley District Hospital,where he was pronounced dead.
 
A 24-year-old man, who police say was known to the victim, was taken into custody.
 
The North District RCMP’s Major Crime Section, Forensic Identification Section and E-Division Major Crime are assisting with the investigation.
 
Police say there's nothing to indicate the general public is at risk.

Murder investigation underway, suspect in custody

On February 8, 2020 at approximately 12:30 am, Smithers RCMP were called to assist the BC Ambulance Services‎ at a rural residence for a report of a stabbing.

Frontline members attended and located an unconscious victim suffering from serious wounds. Immediate first aid measures were initiated by frontline members, and then paramedics who arrived on scene. The victim was transported to the hospital, where, despite all efforts, the 22-year-old Smithers man was pronounced deceased.

Early investigation indicates that an argument ensued between the victim and another man in the residence, known to him. A 24-year-old male suspect has been taken into custody.

The North District RCMP’s Major Crime Section, Forensic Identification Section and E Division Major Crime are assisting with the investigation.

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident and have no reason to believe the general public is at risk. This investigation is continuing.
