Homelessness Forum Tonight in Terrace

John Crawford

The issue of homelessness will be front and centre tonight, as the City of Terrace hosts a public forum on the subject tonight (Tuesday) at the Sportsplex.

Homelessness has become a hot topic in Terrace, since a tent camp sprang up on private property along the Skeena River, next to the Dudley Little Bridge earlier this year.

The encampment, which was finally bulldozed last month, was the focus of a Committee of the Whole meeting in July, where an overflow crowd prompted council to schedule tonight's public forum.

Mayor Carol Leclerc says council has been working hard on various social issues for several years, and says tonight's forum will give community members a chance to put forward ideas that perhaps haven't been thought of yet.

Tonight's forum takes place at the Terrace Sportsplex Banquet Room, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Anyone wanting to add their name to the speakers list should contact Alisa Thompson at City Hall.

Each speaker will have three minutes to speak.
