A search is underway in the Kispiox Valley for a missing mushroom picker.

Sixty-seven-old Wayne Morrison had gone out mushroom picking with a friend in the Helen Lake area early yesterday (Tuesday) morning, but failed to rendezvous with the friend at the pre-arranged time of 5pm, prompting a search of the area.

New Hazelton RCMP were notified just after 9 o'clock last night.

Today, Search-and-rescue personnel, members of the RCMP air support and police dog services and numerous volunteers have been searching the area, looking for signs of the missing man.

Morrison is described as Indigenous, about 5'11" tall and weighing 260 pounds.

He has brown eyes and black hair.

His family says he's familiar with the Helen Lake area, but was not appropriately prepared to be out overnight.
