Accessible Playground Grand Opening in Kitimat

A special ceremony will take place in Kitimat this Friday afternoon (Sep 7), to mark the grand opening of a special playground  that promotes inclusiveness for children of all abilities.

Shannon Miller -- the secretary of the Nechako Elementary School Parent Advisory Council -- says the $100,000 project is the culmination of two years of fundraising.
"The playground is surfaced with a rubber surfacing so any children are able to access the playground regardless of what sort of mobility needs they may have or devices that they may use.   The playground has a number of pieces of equipment on it that is really emphasizing sensory play and interactive play to really encourage all children to play with each other," she said.

Skeena MLA Ellis Ross and representatives of the major donors are expected to be present for Friday's ribbon-cutting.
