Former NHL Stars in Kitamaat Village for August Street Hockey Tournament

Former NHL stars Gino Odjick and Bryan Trottier will be in Kitamaat Village next month, as special guests of the Haisla Nation Council, who are hosting a Street Hockey Tournament.

Haisla Nation Recreation Coordinator Adrian Mercer says this is the first time the band council has organized such a tournament.

"We just wanted to try to get something different in our village going for our youth, rather than basketball and soccer so we thought street hockey would be great and we are looking for kids from ages 6 to 8, 9 to 12, 12 to 15 and 16-plus," he explained.

Application forms are available on line:

The round-robin tournament will take place at the Haisla Recreation Centre in Kitamaat Village on Wednesday August 14th and Thursday the 15th.

The form says the sign-up deadline is next Monday August 5th -- but Mercer says they will still accept late entries up until next Friday (Aug 9).

They're also looking for volunteers to help out during the tournament.
