Lightning Sparks 10 New Fires Across Northwest

John Crawford

Lightning has sparked at least 10 new fires across the northwest since last Thursday morning -- but the Northwest Fire Centre says all of the fires were less than one hectare in size.

The BC Wildfire Service says crews have extinguished most fires or at least have brought them under control.

It says ground patrols are ongoing in order to watch for new fires in the area.

It also says large wildfires burning in Alaska and Yukon Territory are contributing to heavy smoke in much of the Cassiar Fire Zone, including Iskut, Telegraph Creek, Dease Lake, and Atlin.
