School District 82 Superintendent on Leave of Absence

Embattled School District 82 Superintendent Katherine McIntosh has taken a leave-of-absence.

The Coast Mountains School Board issued a news release on its webpage over the weekend, saying McIntosh would be replaced on an interim basis by Human Resources Director Janet Meyer.

McIntosh and the board came under fire in April, after announcing that Skeena Middle School Principal Phillip Barron and Vice Principal Cory Killoran, plus Suwilaawks Community School Principal Pam Kawinsky, were being removed from their positions at the end of the school year and would resume teaching positions within the district.

Following a public outcry from students, parents and teachers, the board announced at a public meeting last Wednesday at those changes were being put on hold while a one-year transition plan was worked out -- but McIntosh did not attend that meeting, citing family issues.

The Coast Mountain Teachers’ Federation has passed votes of non-confidence in both the superintendent and the board of education.
