Happy ending to search for missing skier at Shames Mtn

John Crawford

There was a happy ending to the search for a missing skier at Shames Mountain over the weekend.
Ski Hill management say they were notified early Saturday morning at around 12:15am that the skier had not returned after spending the day on the hill.
The 44-year-old man was described as an advanced skier with backcountry experience -- his vehicle was discovered in the Shames parking lot.
Terrace Search-and-Rescue personnel and the Shames Mountain Ski Patrol were mobilized, and the missing man was located safe-and-sound shortly before noon Saturday.
Shames management say information provided through social media was crucial in locating him.
They say the skier was forced to spend Friday night in the backcountry after losing a ski and having no means to self rescue.
