New Fire Apparatus For the Hazeltons

John Crawford

The District of New Hazelton is about to take delivery of what's being described as a "unique new fire apparatus", designed to improve service to South Hazelton and surrounding rural areas.

The Kitimat-Stikine Regional District says the water tender is smaller than a regular fire truck, but has been outfitted with extensive capabilities, and will replace an aging fire response vehicle which is due to be retired.

RD Board Chair Phil Germuth says it can also stand in for the larger main unit in New Hazelton, when that vehicle is out for servicing.

Thornhill Fire Chief Rick Boehm has been working with his New Hazelton counterpart, Cliff Coukell, to bring the vehicle into service.

The keys to the new vehicle will be presented to New Hazelton during next Friday's R-D Board meeting in Terrace, which will allow the board to see the vehicle before it's formally placed in service later this month.
