The Terrace Skating Club hosted their "Spirit of the Season's" ice show last night featuring special guest Patrick Chan, a National Champion and a three time Olympic Medallist. The evening included skaters of all levels from the club performing themed routines for a sold out audience. After the show, Patrick Chan explained his favorite aspects of performing.

"A typical path that competitive figure skaters take after their competitive career, some of us are lucky enough, that we get to continue our careers and preform and do shows and skate in a non-competitive way, and explore the creativity of performing in shows; it's completely different; its less pressure of course and you get to have fun, have the freedom to do whatever you want."

Chan discussed his goals now he is no longer skating competitively.

"I want to give back at the same time in my sport and now that I'm retired, I have all this knowledge; these years and years of knowledge and I want to help those in need and help lots and lots of kids that are interested in figure skating, even just showing up and giving them a little motivation is all it takes so."

He also provided some insight for skaters wanting to pursue the sport professionally.

"My number one recommendation is not to get too far ahead of yourself; really take it one day at a time, stay present. It's very easy to get carried away and the results and the materialistic items that you get out of performing and stay true to yourself, stay true to why your doing what you're doing and why you're chasing that dream and why you are pushing yourself because that's what supports you over the longevity of a career."

After the ice show ended, a few lucky people were able to meet the man himself, take pictures with him and have him sign autographs. Everyone attending the event left with a smile and a memory that they can treasure.
