Prince Rupert Skating Club Takes a Twist on Storytelling for Annual Ice Gala

The Prince Rupert Skating Club is hard at work practicing for their annual ice gala.

More than 65 skaters, aged three to 14 will entertain on the ice at the Jim Ciccone arena in Prince Rupert this Saturday in Story Time with a Twist.

All the music is centred around the story time theme, featuring a handful of Disney numbers, but head coach Sheri Pringle says the song list was tough to choose and so they mixed things up a little.

"So, for instance, like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves they're going to skate to Born to be Wild, because I think the dwarves can be a little bit wild. There's Wonderland by Taylor Swift, that kind of thing. A little bit more modern than we could be otherwise."

Pringle hopes to fill the stands and that the show will spark an interest in young skaters.

"If people see me and want to talk to me directly after the show or whatever, absolutely open to that. That's how I started skating, I went to a public skate, it was cancelled, there was an ice show, and here we are. So, I think it's a great way to get kids involved."

Doors open at 6:30pm on Saturday for a 7 o'clock start. Tickets will be available at the door, or can be purchased in advance at Loaded Sports.
