Terrace Students, Parents Hold "Save Our Principals" Rally

Another public demonstration was held in Terrace Wednesday, to protest the transfer of three school administrators into classroom positions.

A large group of parents and students gathered outside Skeena Middle School, chanting "Save Our Principals" and "We Want Answers".

Back in April, the Coast Mountains School Board announced that Skeena principal Phillip Barron and vice principal Cory Killoran, plus Suwilaawks Community School principal Pam Kawinsky, would be reassigned to teaching positions after the current school year ends.

That has sparked a backlash from many parents and students, with several kids walking out of class in early May and marching to the school board office.

The School District has not announced the reasons for the change, saying only that all staffing decisions are made using a “team approach” with senior officials and school trustees.

Those opposed to the changes have begun a petition, which has been circulating around town.

The Kermode  Friendship Society has gone as far as writing to the Ministry of Education, demanding an explanation.
