Three Killed, One Survives Small Plane Crash Near Smithers Landing

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash of a small plane near Smithers Landing Saturday, which killed three of four people aboard.

The BC Coroners Service says the crash of the Cessna 182 killed the pilot and two passengers -- but a third passenger survived and has been flown to hospital in Vancouver for treatment.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre launched a search Saturday, after receiving an emergency locator transmitter signal which indicated a plane was in trouble. 

Transportation Safety Board spokeswoman Sophie Wistaff says a team has been sent to the crash site, 50 nautical miles north of Smithers Landing, to investigate.
