The ramifications for recycling of this month's fire in Smithers are becoming evident.

The Town of Smithers and Village of Telkwa each issued notices Wednesday, saying they are suspending curbside recycling pick-ups.

On May 9th, fire roared through the Smithers Recycling Centre on Tatlow Road.

The Village of Telkwa says Recycle BC is working diligently to establish a solution for proper processing of recyclable materials in the area,

But in the meantime, it would be impossible to sort materials collected curbside.

Smithers and Telkwa are encouraging residents to sort recyclables themselves and take them to the Smithers/Telkwa Transfer Station.

The Town of Smithers notes residents could also store recyclables at home until another solution is found.
