Rotarians Restore Terrace Walking Trail

Girls rugby team also helps out

Members of Terrace's two Rotary Clubs -- and several helpers -- were busy Saturday, helping to restore a popular Terrace walking trail.

About 40 people, including members of the Caledonia girls rugby team, were out hauling wheelbarrows full of gravel, filling in muddy or eroded areas on the Howe Creek trail between Eby Street and the Christy Park soccer field.

Organizer David Oatway, of the Rotary Club of Terrace, says the idea was suggested by a Terrace City Councillor -- who's also a club member.

"This is a project that started about a year ago when some citizens of Terrace went to Brian Downie and said 'could you do something?', so he came back to the Rotary Club and to me personally and said 'can we do something?' and I said 'yes!' and here we are!" said Oatway.

Most of the materials -- including the gravel, landscape fabric, rebar and other hardware -- were donated by Nechako Northcoast, Rona and the Ministry of Forests.
