Last of Evacuation Alerts Lifted For Northwest

Local State of Emergency cancelled

7/4/2012

With the threat of flooding pretty much over for the northwest, the Kitimat-Stikine Regional District has lifted its state of local emergency.

The R-D has also rescinded the last of its Evacuation Alerts -- in New Remo and Dutch Valley.

The Regional District says the threat of imminent flooding as diminished -- although it says the alerts could be reissued if conditions warrant.

But that doesn't appear likely.  Skeena River levels have been dropping steadily since peaking nine days ago.  The Usk Hydrometric Station east of Terrace shows a reading of 6.87 metres this morning -- after topping 11.4 on Monday of last week.
