UPDATE: Boil Water Advisory Lifted for Port Ed

Weekend tests confirm water is safe

7/9/2012

The District of Port Edward has lifted a boil-water advisory that was issued Friday.

The warning had been issued after the district discovered a four-inch water line had been left open for a long period of time, disturbing sediment in an old pipe.

"From what we can determine, we were getting a lot of usage from the canneries, and I believe there was about a four-inch line that was turned on and left running for a long period of time, so it created turmoil in a section of our old pipe and disturbed some sediment in there, and we believe that's what caused the dirty water," explained District Chief Administrative Officer Ron Bedard.

But he says weekend tests have confirmed the water is okay:  "All the tests results from the weekend came back great, and there's no problem with the water anymore."

Bedard says the advisory was issued as a precaution only.
