Kitimat Vows to Upgrade Outdoor Wading Pools

7/25/2012

A couple of outdoor wading pools in Kitimat will be undergoing repairs this summer.

The Chilko and Heron Park pools will be see a bit of patch-work.. so they can be open to the public for this season.

This.. after a couple of residents approached council last week.. saying children across town need the pools to cool off in this summer's heat.

They also said they're shocked that no one has told the public that the town was planning to shut down the pools for good.

Kitimat mayor Joanne Monaghan said she's listening.. and will make slight repairs to the pools this summer.. with larger-scale renovations next summer.

We said we would do a fast fix.. so that no one gets injured, and that they can use the pools this year, and we'll look at the pool next year and get them up to speed again."

Monaghan says there are plenty of options for pool next year.. ranging from 25 thousand to 175 thousand dollars
