Carol Huynh of Hazelton will not repeat as Olympic gold medalist in 48-kilogram women's wrestling.
After easily defeating Thi Lua Nguyen of Viet Nam and Vanesa Kaladinskaya of Belarus, Huynh lost to Hitomi Obara of Japan in the semi-finals this morning in London.
The 31-year-old Huynh will wrestle for a bronze medal, while Obara goes for the gold.
Hazelton-area residents have gathered at the historic B-C Cafe to cheer on the hometown girl, at an event hosted by the District of New Hazelton and Village of Hazelton.
Huynh won gold at the Beijing Olympics four years ago -- in fact, that was Canada's first gold medal of the 2008 games.
