Antique Tractors Parade Around the BVX
Antique tractors were parading around the Bulkley Valley Expedition this afternoon. Over 40 tractors participated in the parade, and the tractors dated back to as far as 1919.
Big, small, shiny and rusty but one thing none of the tractors had at the parade today was a cab meaning no air conditioning, heating or a radio.
John “Grandpa” Boonstra says, “They are pretty awkward even to climb in, and some of them had a the seats that were just a metal pan, so there is no comparison in the early days...” Leny Boonstra adds “And then if it was raining, you get soaking wet and now there's a cab on.”
Grandpa Boonstra supplies the parade with 33 of his own tractors that he has taking the time and money to restore... His wife Leny Boonstra says, “It's a hobby for him, he really enjoys it and it keeps him out of my hair.”
Grandpa Boonstra is happy to be known as the tractor man, “They know me as grandpa and has a hobby in old tractors, and if I may blow my own horn, I'm starting to get called the tractor guy, rather than my name.”
If you missed the antique tractor parade today, you can catch it again at 1PM tomorrow afternoon.
