The Bulkley Valley Exhibition Really has a Good Thing Growing

Well a lot of Smithers locals spend every year looking forward to it, but unfortunately there is always an end.  The 93rd annual Bulkley Valley Exphibition finished up this weekend, and with the theme “We've got a Good Thing Growing”, some of the locals, such as Smithers Town Councillor Bill Goodacre says it’s an event to look forward too, “I've been coming here for over 60 years and it's a institution to our town and showing up to the fair is something we always really look forward too.”

Bulkley Valley Agriculture and Industrial Association Lindsey Heer says, “I think definitely when you come down here you find all types and all interest groups and you know all ages... We are really trying to get more young people interested in agriculture, that's the big focus for us this year.”

Members of the 4H club feel like the fair is the time when all of their hard work throughout the year pays off.

Topley 4-H Club ‘A ‘Leader Joyce Dileman, explains some of the work they do before the start the 4-H auction. “They've been washing their animals, clipping their animals spending lots of time brushing them and just grooming them to the best of their abilities.”

For members putting the BVX on, they say it's all about people having a good time and being entertained. Heer says, “So to bring people together and of course the educational component we want to educate people about agriculture there are farmers and people working hard to feed them so it's really important to our local economy and that people recognize that.”
