A woman from the Hazelton area was killed yesterday in an ATV crash.

RCMP say the woman from Gitanmaax and a woman from New Hazelton were riding the machine around 4 pm when it rolled on the Gale Forest Service Road.

The Gitanmaax woman -- who police describe as the "primary operator" of the ATV -- was fatally injured.  The other woman suffered serious injuries and is being treated in hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash but do not believe alcohol was a factor.

The names of the women have not been released.
