An Alaskan man is being treated for serious injuries after being mauled by a grizzly bear south of Houston on Tuesday evening.

The 65-year-old man was flown to hospital in Vancouver with head and facial wounds, as well as plus lacerations and punctures to his torso.

The attack happened at a popular fishing area along the Morice River.

Conservation officers say the bear had a cub with it and the attack appears to be defensive.

They're telling the public to stay out of the area until further notice.

Owen flat downstream to the Aspen pool campground is closed and signs have been posted on the access trail on Morice Road.
