The port in Prince Rupert has a lot of expansion plans in the works.

From the expansion of the coal terminal on Ridley Island, to the wood pellet facility currently under environmental assessment and a 600-million dollar investment in the container facility, the Port is Prince Rupert's largest growing industry.

Prince Rupert Port Authority President Don Krusel spoke during the Northwest Port Symposium that is in town this week and says the Prince Rupert port is the 3rd largest in Canada behind Vancouver and Montreal and the port is continuing to grow.

"We're the fastest growing container terminal in North America and have been the fastest growing container terminal for two of the last three years."

Krusel also said in his address that the port authority intends to build a commercial road that will connect Fairview Terminal with Ridley Island and take container trucks off Prince Rupert's major streets.
