Government committee consults Prince Rupert on upcoming budget

10/15/2012

MLA's on both sides of the aisle were in Prince Rupert yesterday to ask for input from the public in making next year's provincial budget.

The Standing Comittee on Finance and Government Services are holding committee meetings throughout the province and continuing to invite interested groups to present to the committee.

Rocque Berthiaume from Northwest Community College and the Academic Workers Union presented on behalf of the union and says the current funding formula for post secondary education doesn't take into account the small population base in Prince Rupert

"we live in an area that's both sparcely populated as well has vast geographic distance, and that the budget formula for post secondary education is really based on having one institution in a larger urban setting."

North Coast MLA Gary Coons sits on the committee that  held meetings in Kitimat as well yesterday evening and are in Smithers this morning.
