Salmon Fishing Prohibited in Skeena Watershed Until Mid-July
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says fishing for salmon in the whole Skeena Watershed is prohibited from June 15 to July 14.
The DFO says the closure is being implemented to facilitate First Nations harvesting of Skeena salmon.
The department says this is due to predicted low returns of Skeena River sockeye salmon.
Recreational, commercial and First Nations food, social and ceremonial (FSC) harvesting of sockeye salmon will remain closed unless an in-season indication of increased skeena sockeye is discovered.
Recreational harvesting opportunities for Skeena coho, pink and chinook salmon
will re-open on July 15.
