Former Burns Lake Mayor Expected to Plead Guilty

Kathy Brookes

The court has been told a former mayor of Burns Lake charged with sex offences involving under-aged youths plans to enter guilty pleas next month.

Luke Strimbold's lawyer appeared in B.C. Supreme Court in Smithers on Monday. A next court appearance is scheduled May 6th.

Strimbold faces a total of 29 sex-related charges. It's not clear how many he plans to plead guilty to.

Strimbold was the youngest mayor in B.C. history when he was elected in 2011. He resigned in September of 2016.

The offences he is accused of are alleged to have happened both during the time and after he was mayor.
