UPDATED AT 4:30pm NOV 21:   RCMP say a person is now in custody in relation to Sunday morning's fatal hit-and-run collision near Terrace.  No information about the person was released and police said charges had not yet been laid.

The RCMP say they have identified two pickup trucks that may have been involved in a Sunday morning hit-and-run collision which claimed the life of a Terrace man.

Corporal Mike Halskov says tips from the public helped investigators locate two trucks -- each of them towing trailers with boats -- on Haida Gwaii late yesterday afternoon.

"The linkage with the media, getting this story out to a wider audience, really assisted -- the public was very alert to the situation, seeing that it occured in a small community, a close-knit community -- there was definitely a vested interest on the part of community members to find those responsible, and it looks like we're well on the road to doing that," he said.

One of the trucks -- a Ford F-350 -- had damage which police say is consistent with the collision near Terrace, which killed 30-year-old Cameron Kerr.

Police have seized both trucks, two boats and three boat trailers.

They have also identified seven people where were questioned by officers -- and investigators are now trying to determine the exact roles of the individuals in the tragedy.

RCMP say they're confident they have identified the suspect driver responsible for the crash, who is from the Lower Mainland.
