Terrace Bowling Lanes Sold to City -- Preparing for final season of operations

After over six decades of operations, the Terrace Bowling Lanes will begin its final season of operation this September.

The property has been purchased by the City of Terrace, which likely means it will be demolished to allow the city to expand onto the two lots on Lazelle Avenue currently occupied by the structure.

The bowling alley was originally built in 1956, and has been owned and operated by the Mumford family for the past 46 years.

But on social media, the family announced that they are retiring and "moving on to new adventures".

The city has agreed to lease the properties back to the Mumford's holding company -- Barney's Bowl Limited -- for a nine month period (Sept 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020), to allow them to operate for one final season.

The Mumfords say they're planning to have a special farewell season and will "have a blast doing it".

The city says the purchase of the lots will enable future expansion of the city’s operations as the organization grows -- and the demand increases for additional parking and office space for municipal functions.

NEWS RELEASE – CITY OF TERRACE PURCHASES BOWLING LANE PROPERTIES

The City of Terrace has recently made a strategic land acquisition through the purchase of the Barney’s Bowl Ltd. (DBA Terrace Bowling Lanes) properties located at 4807 and 4811 Lazelle Avenue.

This two lot site adjacent to City Hall, including the older building in which the bowling lanes have operated for many decades, will enable future expansion of the City’s operations as the organization grows and the demand for additional parking and office space for municipal functions becomes necessary.

As part of the negotiated purchase of these properties, the City of Terrace has agreed to lease the properties to Barney’s Bowl Ltd. (DBA Terrace Bowling Lanes), for a 9-month term from September 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020. The lease will permit the seller to continue to operate the bowling lane facility for the 2019-2020 bowling season.
