Smithers Residents To Get Update On Walnut Park School Replacement Project

John Crawford

Smithers area residents will get a chance tonight to see how plans for a new Walnut Park Elementary School are progressing.

The conceptual design meeting is being held at the Bulkley Valley School Board Office in Smithers, beginning at 6pm.

The meeting will include an update on site development and plans -- and a conceptual school design.

In May, Education Minister Rob Fleming visited Smithers, where he announced the half-century old Walnut Park Elementary School would be replaced by a new 28.5-million dollar facility, which would include a neighbourhood learning centre and space for the StrongStart program.

Construction of the new school is expected to start next spring, and be completed in time for classes in September 2020.
