Wildfire Risk Reduction near Dease Lake

Kathy Brookes

A "fuel management" project will help reduce the risk of a wildfire near the community of Dease Lake.

The Kitimat-Stikine Regional District and B.C. Wildfire Service plan to reduce the amount of vegetation and dead wood available to burn on about 23 hectares of land.

Fuel management can include pruning, thinning, clearing and burning or chipping flammable materials.

Provincial officials say conditions will be considered before debris piles are ignited to reduce the amount of smoke generated.

The project around Dease Lake will run throughout the spring and summer.
