Yup's 1994 album, Toppatakkeja Ja Toledon Terästä, was surely a milestone of Finnish subculture music. But after losing their keyboardist Tommi Kärkkäinen and independent Elmerecords label, they seemed to move more toward popular music. Homo Sapiens continues their old style on some tracks, like the ultra-fast "Jumala Halkaisi Ihmisen Kahtia," but songs such as "Väärinkäsityksiä Merellä" and "Homo Sapiens" are more sophisticated than their earlier recordings. Jarkko Martikainen's lyrics achieve an argumentative level on this album -- politics and everyday human life are criticized in several lyrics. Read More
