The countdown to the 2010 B-C Winter Games in Terrace is now underway.

The games office was officially opened on Saturday at Mountainview School on Bailey Street, and Committee President Peter Weeber says he's getting more and more excited about hosting the big event.

"We've been working hard since last summer, to get things started," says Weeber, "and this is sorta the kickoff to the big push for volunteer recruitment now. A lot of the work's been done to organize the games -- there's many details still to be worked out, but the crews are workin hard."
Weeber estimates the committee will need about 1800 volunteers to make the event happen, but he's confident Terrace will rise to the challenge, saying the whole community will benefit.
"There's an economic impact of approximately one and a half million dollars, there's a legacy fund for sports and the arts, there's going to be over 2000 people coming from outside Terrace to our community for the whole event, we're gonna have provincial media, we're gonna have the Premier here, we're gonna be a spotlight in BC during that whole period of time so we're excited about it, it's a huge event, and we're gonna make it happen," said Weeber.
