Cannery Upgrades "Project 1" complete

A restoration project at the North Pacific Cannery in Port Edward wrapped up today. 350-thousand dollars in provincial and municipal funding was spent between may and November upgrading piles, sidings and roofs of the historic fishing village. Next year with more funding provided by Parks Canada, the Cannery use 900-thousand dollars to undergo more restorations to preserve the structures of the National Historic Site. The Cannery which was established in 1889 is the oldest intact fishing village on the West Coast of North America.
