Half a million to go

The new Sportsplex in Terrace was scheduled to play host to this weekend's Terrace Chamber of Commerce Trade Fair but that's not going to happen.  The complex was originally scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2007 but a number of delays have meant the fall of 2008 is a more likely scenario.

The eight million dollar complex is in the final stages of phase one with the rink complete and the change rooms and washrooms well on their way. However there is a $432,000 funding shortfall. The fundraising committee has already raised $390,000 and are expected to raise the remaining almost half a million dollars.

Although the funds for phase one haven't all been harnessed, the 1.3 million dollar phase 2 is full steam ahead with the construction of a lobby that will tie the old and new rinks together.

Officials are hoping to have the facility completed by the end of this summer.
