Premier Announces Major Step Forward for Northern Transmission Line

"It sends a message that northern BC is open for business". That's how Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce President Bert Husband reacted to Friday's announcement by Premier Campbell that his government will begin the environmental assessment and First Nations Consultation phase for the proposed Northern Transmission Line.

The Mining Association of BC says electrification of the Highway 37 corridor could benefit ten possible mining projects with the potential to attract more than 15-billion dollars in investment. It predicts that would result in 10,700 jobs and 300-million dollars in annual tax revenues.

Terrace Economic Development Authority E-D-O Sam Harling says the power line is one of the key issues of importance to the mineral industry.
