There's a COVID-19 outbreak at the LNG Canada site in Kitimat.

A notice from Northern Health says it's declared an outbreak at the Project Site where JGC Fluor is the prime contractor after finding evidence of COVID-19 transmission among the staff there.

To date, 14 employees have tested positive.

Northern Health says all of the cases are considered to be associated with this outbreak and occurred in the same general work location.

Specific on-site employees are being screened, and contact management and tracing have gone well and will continue.

The health authority says those identified as cases and close contacts have been instructed to self-isolate.

Thirty-two employees remain in self-isolation at the site, and the rest are isolating in their home communities.

Northern Health says it's working with the BC CDC to ensure communication with the affected employees' home communities' health authorities or jurisdictions.

The outbreak declaration will be in place for at least 28 days.
