The return of sunny and hot weather is having a predictable effect on the northwest's fire hazard.
The BC Wildfire Centre says the hazard is now "Moderate" to "High" across most of Northwest Fire Centre coverage area -- and "Extreme" in the far north near the Yukon border.

Category Two open burning is once again prohibited within the northwest -- and a campfire ban is in place for the Cassiar Fire Zone in the extreme northwest.
Meantime, wildfire smoke from Alberta continues to shroud much of BC, including the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District, prompting the continuation of a Special Weather Statement from Environment Canada.
